These days of social distancing have been around longer than any of us would have ever imagined. I had someone tell me they thought this was the summer that wasn’t. Nothing feels like the middle of July, nothing feels like lazy summer days, and nothing seems to be like normal so time glides by without any notice. Even though we are in the midst of summer our attitudes have been impacted like it is a cold, dark, long winter.
And then I read this quote from Albert Camus, “In the midst of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” What a great reminder that we have within us at all times an INVINCIBLE summer. We have the ability to experience sunshine, daisies, fireflies and popsicles. We have the mental choice to live each day in cold darkness or bright light; it is our attitude and our thought processes that give us this power. With as long as we have been social distancing it is time to turn on our super powers.
The greatest gift we have is free will, the choice to do and say and live how we want, when we want, where we want. That means we have to choose not to be a victim, not to let all the negative and fear of the unknown get us down. And we totally need to give ourselves a break if we need a down day, do it without guilt, then pop right back into the bright light that is our lives. My husband reminded me of this quote and asked that I do a piece for my blog; sometimes we need someone else to remind us that within us all is a summer aching to get out! So get out there and share your best summer soul with everyone around you, and if all else fails hand out some banana popsicles!
