Reasons to be Thankful: People

We all have people in our lives from all areas of our lives. Living, working, serving and knowing people can be messy. People are not always black and white and what worked today may not work tomorrow. Knowing people is a process that changes over time, experience, and depending upon the situation. No matter how up or down, high or low people in our lives can make us feel, this thanksgiving week I am thankful for people.

Family is who we love no matter what. Whether they are part of our bloodline or part of our neighborhood, family is who we choose to trust and spend our lives with no matter the circumstances. Our family has many different nationalities from Italian to Japanese, Irish to Philippine, we are a conglomeration of faces and love. It is those faces that have shaped me into the woman I am today.

Each person brings their own stories and tales of courage to the table which allows us all to benefit from their experiences. Learning about their culture, their customs, their choices and their obligations helps us navigate and develop our own sense of self. Whether they were a positive or negative influence, enthusiastic or a curmudgeon, their presence in my life has taught me more than any book or internet page. I am who I am because of the people I have spent time with, the people I have loved, and the people I learned how I never wanted to be in the future. Each someone has touched my heart and mind beyond measure.

So who are you thankful for this week? What relationships do you want to continue and which ones need to be improved or removed in order for you to be your best self? I hope that your week of Thanksgiving is messy and busy, loud and full of laughter at and with the people you care about most. Like the song lyrics state, people who need people are the luckiest people in the world.
