I caught a cold, so I am practicing better living through chemicals. Summer colds are the worst because all you want to do is be outside in the beautiful weather and feeling poorly prevents you from wanting to do anything. So I’ve been flushing liquids and resting. It’s not as easy as it sounds. My family is being supportive and my husband is keeping me sustained with soup and fruit.
I haven’t been sick in over two years so this stuffy head and sore throat reminds me that I am not infallible or invincible. I am humbled that I can be taken down by a lack of feeling good. Everything in my world has come to a screeching halt. The good news is nothing is going awry and no one is waiting on me to do things. The bad news is that getting sick and feeling bad wears me out!
We plan and life laughs…that’s how I feel, on top of sniffing a lot. We live the illusion that we are in control and feeling bad puts a kink in things. Sickness reminds us to take better care of ourselves, it reinforces why we need to wipe away germs on surfaces, and it helps us appreciate when we are fully feeling like ourselves.
Let me encourage you to eat healthy, get a good night’s sleep, take your vitamins and drink lots of water. What you have going on is worth taking care of yourself. It isn’t selfish to think about yourself before thinking of others. It’s like the airlines tell you, put your mask on first before helping others. If you are not healthy you are no good to anyone. So rest well and live healthy.
