I’m A Yankee Doodle Dandy

Sumi ink on Gel print Remnants – Words: George M. Cohan

We are back from Japan and enjoying the process of getting over jet lag! It’s a doozie traveling from the East back to the West. We magically arrived back home the exact same time we left…gotta love air/time travel! That international date line is amazing!

I created this gel print for the background several years ago. I wanted something patriotic and played with the white dots on the blue background as ‘stars’. It’s cute, yet the print was not fully printed…hence cutting it into strips and leaving gaps. I used three different pens to get all the lyrics on the page. It was fun spreading things out and humming along as I wrote!

Now, if you have not been singing along recently because you don’t know the tune…you probably know this one! Here we go…channel your inner Fourth of July Picnic and cupcakes!

I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy
A Yankee Doodle Do or Die.
A real life nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July.
I’ve a Yankee Doodle Sweetheart
She’s my Yankee Doodle Joy.
Yankee Doodle went to London,
Just to rise the ponies:
I am the Yankee Doodle Boy!

– George M. Coham 1942

I have unpacked all our luggage, and am again reminded of our fun adventures and growing art collections. Our pets are very glad to see us, the house is fine, and we are very excited to be home! Travel is fantastic, it’s a real opportunity to experience the world and see new things. One of the best parts is wanting to come back home. It’s a great feeling, sort of like being the Yankee Doodle Boy!

How blessed we are if we have a home where we want to live. Where we can be ourselves – happy, healthy, safe – no matter its size, shape or color. Home is important. Home – even if it includes a HUGE to do list to make it just want you want – is the place where we can be our best selves. Home is where we rest, relax and rejuvenate ourselves to do the work and things we do outside of our home.

Today I hope that you are thankful for the place where you live. It makes a real difference in who we are when we can lay our head down at night in peace and quiet. Give thanks for the roof over your head. We are truly blessed when we can call a place our home.
