As many of you have read by now, I am starting a new magazine – Paper, Pen and Surface . What you may not know is that I have a team of people helping me who have different talents and skills than I do. THAT is what will make this adventure a success. I have ideas, they know how to take that idea and make it better than I had any idea it could happen. I am smart enough to know that if I rely only on my own skills I will fail, yet when I tap into the brilliance of others my ideas can soar!
It took me a long time to get that. I mean I knew it and yet thought I could do it all. When I let go of my ego and my perfectionist tendencies I wised up. I got it, I understood that bright people can do amazing things with ideas they may not have even been the one to generate. Giving up control and listening, learning from people who think differently than myself makes all the difference.
So what ideas do you have that could do better in the mind of someone else? Letting go and allowing others to work their magic frees you up to do what you do best. And how awful would it feel to see your idea soar knowing you had to enlist the help of other people? THAT doesn’t hurt as much as watching your idea die on the vine because you choked it to death or limped along not knowing that idea’s potential.
Let me encourage you to share your ideas with other people and give them the freedom to transform your idea into something special, something beyond your own capabilities. You do not have to do it all, you simply need to let go and enlist the energies of others. When you do, stand back! You will be amazed at what your idea becomes.
