It is week forty-one in our calligraphy challenge and the prompt was Discipline vs. Freedom. How to communicate the value of both in letters and words? She may not have written these words in a song, yet I appreciate Julie Andrew’s perspective so I used her quote. She has sung countless lyrics and inspired us by how she brought those words to life. I’m glad to be able to share her words on discipline and freedom.
Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me, it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.
I understand how discipline let’s her fly! When things are in order – which takes consistency, commitment and perspective- it forms a foundation upon which anything can be built. Order may mean making your bed each day. It is your first opportunity to complete a task successfully AND prove to yourself that you can do it no matter how you feel. It takes discipline. It takes putting everything else aside to get the job done. It means facing the day knowing what you want AND being willing to do it no matter what anyone else thinks. Discipline provides the structure and the freedom to fly high above it all.
Discipline has become a bad word, one which brings thoughts of reprimands, fear, punishment and even hurt. It is exactly the opposite. When we are disciplined- when we know what we want – our decisions become clear. It is this that allows us to fly past the unknown, the trivial, the expected and the unwanted. Our discipline allows us to move and focus on what we want to do, what we need to do to move forward. It puts perspective within reach and reminds us that WE are important enough to deserve personal discipline AND gives us the freedom to fly towards our dreams.
Put your discipline on and put it to work. Know what you want and make decisions that support your dreams. THAT is where true freedom begins!
Wow! This is really awesome 👏 💯
