Open the Doors They Didn’t Know Existed

Ink on watercolor – Words: Sir Francis Bacon

The more you know, the more power you have. No matter the topic, the reason you know it, or if you were the first or the last person to obtain the knowledge, once you know it the power is in your hands. The miraculous thing about knowledge is that once you have it no one can take it away. A thought or idea transforms our minds such that we will never be the same again.

The challenge with power is not lording it over those who do not hold that power, or throwing it around where it is not needed in order to flex and command power. No one likes a know it all, and no one wants to be around someone who always points the topic back to their power instead of being able to yield to others who also have power. Again, nobody likes a know it all, especially when they keep reminding you about how much they know.

The real power comes when you share your knowledge with others to help them change their own lives. Knowledge is not something we store and save it is something we freely give away, and the more we give the more we get. Watching others learn, grow, mature and change is one of the best parts of being involved in the lives of others. Even better is when they quote you back to you without remembering where they first learned that lesson. I’ve had that happen multiple times and it brings a smile to my soul knowing that something I shared made such an impact.

So where is your power, and how are you using it to make the world better? Take time today to pour yourself into someone else, share your knowledge and open the doors they did not even know existed.
