I stopped watching the news years ago. I know I am uninformed, I agree and blissfully so. I choose to put in my head what matters not what someone else thinks I should know. Call me nuts, call me crazy, and yet if enough important things happen someone will call me to let me know.
All that being said, and with all that is happening in our country right now, we need to be reminded that we have the ability to change things for the better. All we have to do is work towards the greater good not our own agendas. As today is President’s Day I thought I would quote a president. These words from Eisenhower ring true today. I find it sad that fifty years later and we are still able to relate as we are still having the same problems. There is a reason we are the land of the free and the home of the brave. There is a reason why people are doing whatever it takes to get here to work hard and build their lives. This is an amazing country to be a part of no matter how awful it sometimes feels. Try doing all that you do somewhere else and you won’t have the same experience. We are blessed to be Americans.
With blessings come responsibility, the responsibility to work hard at protecting and delivering what our constitution states. We are a nation that has forgotten who we are and what we want. We complain a lot about the economy, yet what are we doing about our personal economy. How are we paying attention to our own incomes and outgo? How are we doing with keeping our own lives running smoothly instead of worrying all day about everyone else’s life? And how are we giving, caring and helping our neighbors and community? Unless we are willing to get to work no one is going to get what they want long term, we have got to work together to make this the nation we want.
Whew! Okay, I’m stepping off my soap box to remind us all that we can make things change, work, function the way we want by simply working together to deliver what this country means. It takes time, it takes money, it takes people…which is code for us. I’m proud to be an American, no matter how messed up the nightly news paints the doom and gloom. I’m glad we’re all in this together.
