I struggled to create the artwork for this song. It is a very moving and beautiful tribute to love, home and what someone means. I had several verses written out and knew I wanted to give it the graphic look of a house, there were just too many good words to use. So I created this and left it on my table. I must have come back to it at least a dozen times to see how or if I could add the verses to share more of the song. Was this too simple, did it need something, would the words add something to it? In the end as you can tell I went with just this simple three word graphic. I think it says it all.
Home has lots of meanings, the best is when you do not need it to be a place because it is a person. Be it a friend, a family member or a partner having someone to go home to changes everything. The location of ‘home’ may change, especially if you travel a lot. In this song Billy Joel reminds us that even a gypsy can find home in another soul.
Between the theme of this song and the simple graphic I created I am reminded that sometimes the simple things in life ARE what make a life complete. Not everything that supports who we are needs to be tangible, set in stone or even visible. An emotion, loving support, the feeling of being complete is more than enough to satisfy even the most cynical of souls; it just takes time, patience and a lot of effort to make it work. In the end it is how we feel that sustains us not a place. My hope for you is that you have someone in your life that helps you be you no matter the location.
