We all have worries. We all face the unknown, the unbearable, the past and the future. Each day we think and worry, worry and think about all the elements of our lives. We wonder how we will keep it all working together to create the life we want to live. Prayer is one way to connect ourselves with a higher power.
Being able to talk about what is on our minds to someone who is listening can help us cope. Just to know we are important enough to be listened to reminds us that talking, praying, then listening works.
William James wrote these words in the 19th century, more than a hundred years ago. How could he know that in times like these we need to be reminded that prayer works? Maybe the names and language of trouble and turmoil have changed in over a century but not the basic tenant that everyone needs someone to listen to them, no matter what.
Maybe you do not believe in God or a higher power. Maybe religion has left you frustrated. Maybe you just need to release your burdens to someone who will listen. Maybe you just need to talk it through out loud, try praying. You might be surprised at the outcome.
