We spend out lives wondering what we want to be when we grow up. Each stage of life brings new questions, new situations, and new things to ponder. It really boils down to what you want out of life, then having the guts to organize life to support what you want. Sounds simple, we all know it is not.
Most people know what is important to them, even if they have never said it out loud or written it down. The choices they make everyday indicate it to everyone in their life. As we live our lives what becomes important changes. Age has a way of narrowing down the list and providing clarity that youth can sometimes prevent. A life changing event puts everything into perspective, it too gives us clarity and insight in what really matters.
All too often the urgent overtakes the important. Someone shouts louder, screams more, or panic takes over and what was important goes by the way side. The deadlines, the pressure to perform, the keeping up with the Joneses, and the sudden surprises smother what we really want. Sometimes a walk around the block or a few moments of quiet help me remind myself what I want and how the urgent may be urgent for someone else, but is it really urgent for my life?
Somewhere in your inner self there is a list of what is important to you. Or maybe you had a list and it needs to be revised. Maybe you have never actually thought about it, so today is that day. How will you know when you are fulfilled if you do not know what is important to you? How do you know how to live with the people around you if you do not know what is important to them? Today is a great way to find out.
