It is the first day of the new year. The day when many people think about what they want to accomplish, change or do in the next three hundred and sixty-five days. I would encourage you to do something that scares you. Go big, go bold, go for the thing you have always been too afraid of shy to do…and do it! Challenge yourself in one area of your life to do what you think is improbable or impossible. Do not worry about HOW you are going to do it, or WHEN you will get it done. Simply take today to think about making this big, hairy, scary thing your goal.
I set a goal for myself to post to this blog everyday. I wanted to see if I could do it for one year straight. I was a sketchy writer at the time, and that is being nice. I did it and that was four years ago, and I am still writing everyday. It scared me to make such a big commitment and everyday I had a bazillion excuses run through my head as to why I should simply give up. So I took it one day at a time and reminded myself that I could write one more post today, and tomorrow would take care of itself.
There is something you have had nagging at you for a while. Something you have wanted to do or change or undertake, but a busy life has prevented you from making a commitment to yourself to do it. Let me encourage you to be honest with yourself and pick something that is so big that you can’t do it by yourself. Something so far beyond your imagination that only if you stretch yourself could you even get started. Make this the one thing you will do to make your life better. The scarier the better. Give your life and what you want the importance to do it.
It is a cliche yet still true. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Decide what miles you want to travel and take one step, then another, then another. You can do it!
