I enjoy watching the moon this time of year. With cooler air and shorter days it is good to get reacquainted with night time. I walked to our mailbox after dark to mail some letters, and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the earth resting after a hard day’s work. I am a bit of a night owl, and prefer evening to morning. I’m fortunate that our cats like night time as well. They followed me to the mailbox and ran back to the house in front of me, reminding me that you can be playful anytime of the day.
Fall brings with it all sorts of emotions and different energy levels. Sometimes it makes us feel guilty to not be as energetic as we were in Summer. We want to sustain things at the same intensity all year long. I think the changing of the seasons is Mother Nature reminding us that there is a time to grow and a time to rest, a time to relax and a time to thrive. Fall is our time to settle into cooler days and nights and relax while nature prepares for a Winter’s nap.
Are you a night owl or a morning person? As the days grow shorter how does that impact your emotions, your sense of energy, your thought processes? What are you looking forward to doing this Fall and Winter that you might not have had the time to accomplish during Summer? What new project or craft, talent or old favorite are you going to put back to work to enjoy the shorter days? Maybe this is your chance to do something you have always wanted to do and never made the time. Or maybe you are going to get a good night’s sleep for a change! Whatever it is you plan to do during these shorter days and longer nights, remember there is no quilt in changing your habits and energy with the seasons. If Mother Nature does it how bad can it be?
