Here we are again, getting ready to sing. This one is a traditional English folk song. I remember singing it at Girl Scout Camp. I built the background with green mulberry paper scraps and gel print remnants. I then thought about how a frog would move around, so I jumbled the lyrics with different directions and different ink colors…as if the frog were jumping around and splashing through the water. It made the piece a bit of a murky mess, yet that might exactly how this little frog traveled!
Here are the lyrics…or at least the first stanza:
Frog he went a courting’ and he did ride
– Traditional English Folk Song
Unh-hunh, Unh-hunh
Frog he went a courting’ and he did ride
Unh-hunh, Unh-hunh
With sword and pistol by his side
Unh-hunh, Unh-hunh
As I am lettering each post, I find myself humming and singing the tunes. Some with more vigor that others. I think that is kind of indicative of where we each are in life. Some memories are stronger than others, more powerful, more close to our heart. And tunes, stay with us. Beyond our stages of life, or circumstances, a song has the ability to transport us back to earlier times, fond memories or even lull us to sleep. What a great gift it is to sing, hum and then remember that paces, people and activities surrounded by that song.
Stay tuned (no pun intended) as we sing another family sign-a-long song. I wonder what it will be????
