Today I am sharing a piece done with two Pentel gel pens – a .05 and a .7. That number signifies the size of the tip of the pen…so yes, they were rather small. I created the letters us using stencils, then quickly splattered the page with water. I pulled out a metal knitting needle and smeared the water splotches and add some interest. As this is a counting song I thought it would be fun to put each verse inside the number.
La, La, La LAAAAAA, La, La, La La…….okay now we’re ready. Here are the words to this Traditional Counting Round. And No, I will not write out each verse individually….that would indeed be too much counting.
This Old Man, He Plays One.
– Traditional Counting Round
He Plays Nick-Nick on my thumb…
Chorus: With a Nick-Nack, Patty-Wack
Give the Dog a Bone
This Old Man goes Rolling Home.
…He Plays Two…on my shoe
…He Plays Three..on my knee
…He Plays Four…on my door
…He Play Five…on my hive
…He Plays Six…on my sticks
…He Plays Seven…cross my heart and go to heaven
…He Plays Eight…on my gate
…He Plays Nine…on my twine
…He Plays Ten …with my friends.
It took me a while to get each verse to fit into each numeral, and I have to admit after a while I was humming and singing the tune while I wrote. It brought back memories of doing this tune with my nephews as they learned to count. This week I am meeting my granddaughter Mina, she will be one this month. We travel to Japan to meet her and YES I plan to sing this song to her and tickle her toes.
Ya’ gotta love when life comes full circle. My grandfather played this counting game with me, and now it is my turn to teach it to the next generation. And to be the cool “AnnMa” of course!
And I apologize if this becomes the tune in your ear all day…or do I apologize? NAAAH, never mind, have fun counting and singing and being silly. Life is too short to be serious all the time.
See you tomorrow!
