We had our monthly studio play date yesterday, and one of our regulars gave me this gel print monotype she created during the day. She spent her time practicing and learning new techniques, and didn’t like this one. She said she was going to throw it away. I told her I loved it, so she handed it to me. Here are the words of this memorable quote:
Never think that God's delays are God's denials.
Hold on, Hold fast, Hold out.
Patience is genius.
-George Louis de Buffon 1788
One day you will find yourself in the middle of delay after delay, followed by more disappointment and more delay. As humans our patience can only handle so much, after that our emotional legs buckle and we falter. Hope seems farther and farther away, and we eventually fall prey to giving up. We may still get all the things done we need to get done everyday, we may still look like we’re moving right along, yet inside we are down for the count. These are the times when it can be hard to believe that God is listening, let alone that He has a plan AND is hard at work.
We never really know what people are going through, unless we sit and listen. And listening does not mean we comment, or pipe in with our opinion, or even try and fix it, or tell them what to do. Listening means using our ears and shutting our mouth. I recently listened to a friend tell me her about her travel adventures, woes, insights and challenges…we both quoted these words. God’s delays are not God’s denial. Great minds think alike. People who have lived through delays and come out on the other side have earned their wisdom and know how to put that wisdom into action. They have learned to not let their plan get in the way of God’s plans. We wear a watch, God doesn’t.
Let me encourage you to KNOW that things will work out. Maybe not the way you planned, maybe not even the way you ever thought possible, and most likely not even on your timeline – yet it will work out. Once we let go, keep believing and allow ourselves to be open to another path, THAT is when the miracles happen. When you feel like you have reached the point where hope and faith seem far away, talk to someone. My guess is they will remind you that delay is not denial…keep working, it will get done!

Your words without a doubt always deeply touch my heart. You are one of the best, Ann.
LOVE, what you did with the print. It looks great.
