Have I mentioned that I am tried of Winter? I mean really, REALLY tired of it! I live in Georgia and our Winters are not supposed to be this brutal. We’ve had weeks in the 20s and everything looks a bit tired and cold. I know, this sounds like whining as I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, where it gets REALLY, REALLY cold all the time. And yes, Spring is trying to show itself. It just keeps getting beaten down by nasty wind and cold temperatures.
When I read this quote from Doug Larson, I laughed out loud:
Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush!
Today I am ready to embrace Spring and get rid of the slush in my shoe! I am ready to see bulbs coming up, and our dogs frolic in the grass working to dig up moles, barking at the neighbor dogs who are also frolicking in their own yards. I want to hear the birds chirp and see buds on the trees. It’s time, I mean enough is enough!
Ever feel that way? You get so tired of your current circumstances and just need a break? Even though you know this is where you are right now, sometimes the urge to whistle outweighs every logical, slushy element telling you to wait longer. We can only stand so much before we need to romp in the grass or dig in the dirt. We need a reminder that what we feel today will not last forever. One day our shoe will no longer house slush.
So let me encourage you to be okay with the waiting…for Spring, or whatever it is you are anticipating. Time will pass quickly. Before you know it Spring is gone, Summer is here and you will complain about mosquitos and gnats! That just feels far away today, right now. It may feel like slush in your shoe, like what you want is very far away – maybe even unattainable. So again, be patient, the weather and ALL that is frustrating today will change. What will help most is doing what needs to be done today in order to be prepared for a beautiful tomorrow.
Spring will come. Whatever it is you are building, working towards, or even hoping to gain, all that and more is just around the corner. Just do the work, keep your head down, and if you have the urge, whistle long and loud. People may call you crazy, who cares what they think! What you think is what matters…even with a shoe full of slush!
