I talked to several people today and somewhere in each conversation was a discussion about the weather. No matter where you live there is always weather. Wet, dry, cold, warm, windy, mild or hot. The weather is a common topic of conversation so this quote made me laugh out loud as I realized how often I start a conversation by talking about the weather.
The thing that weather reminds us about is that we are not in control of it. There is no way to make it do what we want, when we want, how we want so our best course of action is to learn how to deal with the unknown that the weather always brings. No matter how hard you plan, there is always weather. No matter how open ended you like to live there will always be a surprise due to weather. And just when we think we have everything in order and every detail in it’s place, there will undoubtedly be an issue with weather. So get used to it, get over it, and focus on what you can control which is your actions and your attitude.
I think the weather is a great reminder that we are not able to plan, arrange, organize or control every aspect of our life. We may want to THINK we can, those of us who have had a few weather related adventures will tell you that we are not in control. And there is no way that more planning or preparation will bring more control. Once we figure that out and do all that we can with our actions and attitude the more we can let the disasters, surprises and spoiler alerts of life roll off our backs. Sometimes the best stories are the ones where the weather foiled, spoiled or uplifted an important event or activity.
It is in our nature to want to plan and control, for some of us more than others. Talking about and dealing with the weather reveals our attitude, or mindset and our ability to let things go. Next time you and others start talking about the weather pay more attention to how people say things rather than what they say…it can be truly revealing. You cannot control the weather, so let it go and focus on what you can control which is your actions and your attitude.
