Mary Pickford was a silent film star who found herself left behind when ‘talkies’ hit Hollywood. Her acting skills no longer suit the mustard and her voice was not very strong. The career she had built was suddenly gone and she had to pick herself back up. What did she do, she become a Producer and founded United Artists Studio with her husband Douglas Fairbanks and Charlies Chaplin. That’s one very productive way to get back up!
We all fall down, the key is not to stay down too long. If we get used to being down we forget how to get back up and suddenly changing things is no longer a thought in our brain. The best have failed, the worst have failed, the difference in that the best got back up and kept going. Anyone who has done anything has failed, made mistakes and even lost everything. We know their stories because they got back up and tried again.
This week is Thanksgiving and chances are the plans you usually have with your family have changed due to social distancing. All that can feel like yet another blow during some very strange months. Okay, so you don’t like it, so do something about it. Get back up and figure out a way to ‘be’ with your family without spreading any germs. Get creative, use technology, try, test and try again. Your family, your holiday and all that it means can be wonderful it will just take a bit more work.
Failure is not in the falling down, it is in the staying down. Do not let the failures or disappointments in your world leave you laying flat on the floor. Get up, try again, and keep going until you get what you want.
