And So It Goes, And So It Goes

Inktober 2020 – Day 15: Billy Joel Lyrics

In every heart there is a room, a sanctuary safe and strong, a place where we all can hide, protect or flee from the pains of our past. This portion of our heart is a very private place where only those invited in ever get to see the true darkness we have survived. If we are not careful though this room in our heart may become too big for us to handle alone or for anyone to be able to penetrate and help us heal. And so it goes, and so it goes, and you’re the only one who knows.

We cannot survive to live a healthy life if we store away all our pain and never let anyone inside our heart. That leads to a lonely existence, that might feel safe and justified, an existence that prevents us from learning and being victorious over the pain. For it is usually the pain in life that teaches us our greatest lessons. Sure we learn and celebrate in joy, yet it is those dark and unknown moments where we learn what we can endure and make us stronger for the next adventure.

We have to choose to let people see our pain, our inner struggles and allow them to guide us back to the land of peace. It is a risk and letting them in means they too can add to the hurt, yet it is a choice we have to make if we want to progress in any healthy relationship. So I will share this room with you, and you can have this heart to break.

And so it goes, and so it goes, and you’re the only one that knows. I cherish the people I have let into my room for they have made me a better person. Not all of them were kind or tender with my heart, however I am grateful for every lesson learned. They know me, they hear me, and they have added value to my soul in both positive and negative experiences. But that’s life, and so it goes…and you’re the only one who knows who the next person is that you need to let into your room. They may break your heart or help you heal it, no one can let them in but you. And so it goes, and so it goes, and you’re the only one who knows
