Today Choose to be Happy

Ink on Pastel Paper – Words: Unknown

This one was a request from my husband. He loves this saying and wanted it to look bird like, hence the ‘feet’ marks near the bottom. I did many, many versions and this is the one he liked the most.

Over the years I have done hundreds of commissioned pieces, everything from birth to death and whatever happens to people in between. They are always a bit more challenging than the work I do for myself because I never know if the person will like what I created. It’s a huge risk, an honor and a bit nerve racking all at the same time. I have never had an unsatisfied customer and look forward to many more in my future, I have two commissions sitting on my work table right now.

It is wonderful when people want you to do something on their behalf. Sure some of them just want someone else to do the work. Most of the time people ask you to do work because you are good at it. Being good at something AND being asked to do it often brings great pride and joy. It’s like being a bird with a french fry, something unexpected and wonderfully fun all rolled into one piece of potato.

No matter your current work load, no matter whether or not you are working, there is always a reason to be happy. If you are reading this, then you can read, you have accessed the internet, you enjoy art and making yourself think, and you are open to hearing about what other people have to say. All those things come together to help you be happy. And yet happy is more of an attitude than a state of being. We have to choose everyday to be happy, no matter the circumstances we are experiencing. So let this cute little quote remind you that today you can be as happy as a bird with a french fry, today choose to be happy.
