All of us have had the wind knocked out of us, physically and emotionally. The best outcomes is that we got right back up and kept moving. When we dwell on the hurt and the scars we continue to give the pain power over our lives. True growth happens when we are able to forgive and forget therefore removing any power the past has over our future.
All of us have had people who made us feel better about ourselves. Be it a teacher, parent, family member, colleague or community member, somewhere along our path someone treated us with kindness and the words they planted in our brain still remind us of our best selves. These are the thoughts we need to choose to focus on and let the rest go.
History is a hard thing to overcome, and denying what happened only makes things worse. Being able to see the good and the bad, the unwanted and the ugly helps us put things into perspective. If we deny the past we are destined to repeat the same mistakes. Take time today to forgive, forget, and say thank you to the people who have made your life one with smiles and kindness. It is how we treat people that matters most.
