Go For It

My husband and I visit the dump a lot to find things we can transform. On this particular Saturday we were looking for wood pallets. We were told about the semi truck full of them around the corner, so away we went. Here you see Kevin doing his best to reach the one he wanted at the top of the pile. This shot was proceeded by the following conversation…

“I really want to see what that one at the top looks like. Do you think I can climb these? Will they hold?”

“I don’t know. Are you willing to take that risk?”

“HHHmmmmm…” (the first step is taken)

“I guess we’ll find out rather quickly.” (Chuckle, chuckle, chuckle)

When we arrives at the bottom with his bounty in hand, we exchange fist bumps and he proceeds to gather a couple more we want. The effort and risk was worth the effort. But he didn’t know that when he was going, “HHmmmmmmm…” only a few minutes earlier.

It’s a small thing to climb a wall of pallets to get what you want, but we have all been there at one point or another in life. We see what we want, we see what we have to do to get it, and we decide to take the risk. We may ask a few questions and have a bit of in-trepidation, but we do it anyway. What we want is more important than the risks.

I hope you have something you want to do or see that you think is worth the risk. There is a time to play it safe and a time to go for it. The key to success is knowing the difference. Success happens when opportunity and preparedness meet. All too often we see the opportunity and fail to act because we don’t want to take the risk. What got you to where you are will not be what gets you to where you want to go. Take the risk and go for it…the fist bump when you succeed will make it all worthwhile.
