8 Days And Counting Down…

One week from tomorrow and we will be on our way down to the Cobb Galleria center to set up for the show. We have to be set up by 5pm in order to be ready for a preview party. The preview show runs from 6-9pm that evening. Friday is then the first full day of the three-day show.

I cleaned up my drafting table, pens, glue gunk and all that jazz this evening. Strange feeling. I have completed ALL the unframed work I had for the show, so anything else I create from here on out is ‘gravy’. Only 3-4 more pieces need to have backing put on the frames, then all the framed work will be done. I hoped that I would not be madly creating until three in the morning the night before we set up, well lo and behold, I won’t be – I will be sleeping…hopefully. Eight days until the show and I am breathing evenly, smoothly and going to spend my time completing other jots and diddles for pulling off the show. I have to finish my biography page, print the handouts for the commissioned works, and work with Dad to create all the price tags. And now that all the inventory is 90% done, we need to wrap it up in order to transport it all next week.

Next week – I said that tonight and Kevin said, “NEXT WEEK!!! I thought we had one more week.” Nope, only eight days left. It’s sort of like counting down to Christmas day when you were a kid…eight more days.

And as I roamed through the mock booth, I took a picture of a piece I did for the booth. It isn’t for sale, it is more an announcement for people who look at my work. A portion of the proceeds from my sales are being donated to support the Atlanta Children’s Shelter. I created the piece below to highlight this without being too, too, too (can’t think of the word) too much… I wanted patrons to know what I support, that I am thankful for my blessings, and I want their art purchases to help others who are not as fortunate.

As a gallery, we have committed to donate 10% of our profits to charity. To support our community, to give back to those in need, and to stay focused on the One who brings us all our blessings – giving back is the least we can do for all the blessings we have each and every day.

If you don’t know about the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, the link is below. They provide free daycare for homeless families while they are working toward self-sufficiency. Little know fact – the average age of a homeless person in Atlanta, Georgia is nine years old. Nine – wow! At that age I was still counting days until Santa arrived, not worrying about where I would sleep or what I would eat.

So tonight as you go to sleep in your safe bed, under a warm roof and wake to eat whatever you want…remember that somewhere children aren’t counting on Santa they are counting on those of us who are blessed to lend a hand until they are self-sustaining.
