How BIG WE Think!

Various Inks on Gel Print – Words: Emeril Lagasse

In my online prompt group we were challenged to write three letters, not a monogram, just three letters. I found this quote from Emeril Lagasse and thought it was appropriate:

If you think big
then it's going
to be big.

- Emeril Lagasse

My mind is always racing with ideas and thoughts. Ways to improve, things to change or rearrange, even new ways of doing old things. It is a blessing and a cruse to have all that rolling around in my head. I have notebook where I write down all the ideas I want to further develop. Yet there is a great difference between having an idea and actually doing the thinking to make the idea reality. Thinking requires time, patience and the willingness to actually do the mental work. It means putting aside the day to day and daring to believe that THIS idea is worth the mental effort. Some ideas are worth that effort, and some just flit away like a firefly on a late Summer evening. Seen, then gone…never to return.

Recently my husband and I have had a great idea about how to change a few things in our studios and on our property. I had the idea and we started writing it all down. And not just writing it down but drawing things out and thinking about elements like a budget, timeline, the people who meed to be involved to help us get it done. And then you think about the money…and gulp! Suddenly it all becomes real. However, we do want it to become real. Which means we have to think more, pray a lot, and keep writing down what we want and how we want it. We will eventually spend the money, it is just a matter of when and how. So, I have dedicated a folder, really a binder, to keep all our ideas – photos, advertisements, lists – in one place. And now what was just a good idea is becoming a HUGE idea, and one we want to pursue.

How do you think about your life? Where do you write down your ideas – the ones you think have enough tooth to pursue? And when do you give those ideas the thinking time to bring them to life? Thinking big takes time, courage, and effort. It means investing the quiet, uninterrupted time to actually process through what it will take to make your idea a reality? And one pointer here…making a list by typing is NOT THE SAME as actually writing it down with pen and paper. Our brains remember things better when we write more than when we type. Our minds process more fully when we write – tactically putting it somewhere we see, write more, process fully. So don’t just type it on your phone or in a document, write it down!

Writing it down means you dare to believe that it might actually happen…maybe not the way you first thought, or in the timeline you first imagined, or how your inner perfectionist needs it to be…yet it can actually happen. Your life and ideas are worth the time it takes to think. And don’t just think, THINK BIG!!! Invest the time to think to make your ideas and life better! We are only limited in what we can do by HOW BIG we think!

What do you think - write your thoughts here!
