Inktober Day 29: Start by Believing

Acrylic Ink on Black Paper – Words: Mahatma Ghandi

When I hear people talk about the obstacles in doing something new – fear, inexperience, lack of confidence, even a lack of belief – I am reminded of these words from Ghandi:

If I have the belief that I can do it,
I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it.

– Mahatma Ghandi 1948

Of all the things that prevent us from being able to do something, belief is the one that probably hangs us up the most. When we do not believe we can do it, that it can happen, that out there are people who can help us make it happen, then we indeed are well behind the eight ball. Ghandi reminds us that being able to do something starts with belief. Once the seed of belief is planted, SURELY we can acquire the capacity – knowledge and skills – to get the thing done.

So today I encourage you to think about the things you want to do that are sitting stagnant on your table, in your head, or dying a slow death on that ‘to do’ list. What if you reread and rethink about them from a point of blind belief? Once the idea is reignited with faith, the next step is finding out what you need to learn, or who you need to hire to get it done. Then the capacity to succeed meets you head on and joins you on the journey. Belief leads to capacity…so start by believing!
