Inktober Day 27: Thank God!

Acrylic Ink on Black Paper – Words: Barbra Streisand

I am always surprised and comforted when REALLY famous people share their journey. These words from Barbra Streisand were a shock:

Thank God that there were a couple people in my life
who said, “Go on, GO ON, you can do it!”

-Barbra Streisand

To think that at one time she thought she was not good enough, or couldn’t sing well enough…crazy! Her voice is special, she looks different than all the other singers, she has personality and chutzpah! So I get it – we all get it – she is not like everyone singing out there. THAT is exactly what makes her incredible. I’m glad there were people in her life to encourage her keep going when her confidence was low. What a loss it would have been to have missed out on her talents being share with the world.

Everyone has moments where their confidence fails them. When the person in the mirror is not exactly the person they think is good enough. When we compare ourselves and always fall short. When we yearn to be better, thinner, smarter, faster, than the person we are today. And we stop taking risks or getting out there because our confidence is low. I hope that when you feel that way you have people to tell you to go on, go on! We all need these people to help us get through the low days and get us back on track.

That coin also has another side. Maybe today is the day YOU need to be the one encouraging someone to go on, go on! Maybe it is your voice that someone needs to get them back on track. Never underestimate the power in words of encouragement. Most of us can pinpoint the people who have kept us moving forward when all we wanted to do was sit down and pout. If you’re feeling hesitant about urging someone forward, fear not! YOU may be exact what they needed to keep their forward momentum moving forward. Your words have power, so use them, and use them often! No one has even complained about being encouraged too much!
