Inktober Day 25: Wiser Than We Were

Acrylic Ink on Black Paper – Words: Howard Schultz

Today was a Play Date in our studio and gallery. We host it on the last Saturday of the month, and any artist is invited to join us to create, chat and have fellowship. We had a great day and wonderful conversations. We all spoke about situations we are dealing with, and it helped to talk things over with someone who was detached from the situation. Wisdom was shared and friendships were cemented even more…and I saw these words and knew they had to be my quote for today:

Every experience prepares you for the next one…
you just don’t know what the next one is going to be.

– Howard Schultz 2025

Life goes fast, and we are being prepared everyday to handle our future. Challenge is we do not know what that future holds. So what’s the lesson? Learn what you can from what you are dealing with today because tomorrow, or a week from now, a month, or even several years from now, you WILL need that wisdom and lesson that today’s situation provides.

It may sound a little fortune cookie-esc…yet it’s true. Today we are learning to be the person we need to be in the future. Lessons may be easy, they may come slow, we may be resistant to change, and yet if we are fortunate the future is coming. And our future selves will draw guidance and solutions from today. Be open to the tough stuff, the struggle and allow yourself to do it with calm and peace. Deal with your anger, and yes people will surprise you and disappoint…you will make them angry and disappoint them as well. All of that stuff is wrapped into the packing for a future better, stronger, wiser you. Oh no, here she goes, it’s that personal growth stuff again. You got ya’! I would rather encourage you towards a better you than try and manipulate or sell you something. The best thing I can do as a writer is to make you think…which makes me think.

Life is too short and there are no guarantees for any of us. Let us learn from today to be prepared for tomorrow. The goal is for the future to be better and that can only happen if we are better. So here’s to the people and conversations that made our today interesting so that tomorrow we can be wiser than we were today.
