Inktober Day 7: What YOU Have to Offer

Gel & Acrylic Ink on Black Paper – Words: Louise L. Hay

I recently had a conversation with someone who was job hunting. It’s a very trying process. You are trying to sell yourself to strangers, not knowing who they are the what the competition looks like, nor do you have any idea what they really want? And on top of that, there is money involved, commuting, co-workers you don’t meet, and it is possible that of the people interviewing you, none of them will actually be your boss. Let’s face it, job hunting is worse than dating! The person I talked to mentioned all these things and more. It made me very glad I was NOT job hunting.

After we spoke for a while, I reminded them of these words:

Somewhere someone is looking for
exactly what you have to offer.

– Louise L. Hay 2017

In can be hard to realize what we have to offer when every time we pick up our phone there is a new standard, a new fad or buzz word, a new hobby that has gone viral, and a new way to do what we already did pretty darn well. WHEW! Keeping up is exhausting, let alone trying to please all the people all the time. Trying to be and do it all is overwhelming!

We all have to face that we cannot be all things to all people. Not everyone will like us, and we are not a fit for every job, every date, every office, or for every situation. Once we face this and are not shaken by it, THAT is when we truly embrace who we are and what we have to offer. Instead of trying to be the person they want, or trying to be everyone’s best friend, let’s focus on being the best version of ourselves…and doing it really well every single day. The happiest people I know understand who they are – the good, the bad and the ugly – and they joyfully bring their whole self to everything they do. Yes they work to make themselves better, they simply understand who they are at their core.

Let me encourage you to take time to understand what you want, who you want to be, and what you have to offer. That means putting down your phone and thinking, writing it down, maybe even crossing out a few things and narrowing the list to your core values and strengths. List the things you like to do and do well. Find out what makes you smile, what makes you feel valued, and what you want to learn more about. Life is a process, not a destination. Being able to be our true self and knowing who that is, that’s when the magic happens.
