Whatever it is, Just Begin!

Acrylic & Alcohol Ink on Gel Print Collage – Words: Cesar Pavese

There are days when just getting started can feel like climbing Mt. Fuji without any path. Each step is a struggle, each movement is turmoil, every action even breathing is tiresome and seems to get you no where. It is the worst part of the adventure, the hardest part, and the one that really matters the most. Sure it will get tough as you keep climbing, And yet, if you don’t begin you will never get to the top. So…

The only joy in the world is to begin.

– Cesar Pavese 1950

Maybe today is the day you take that first step. You swing your legs out of bed, put your feet on the ground and you take one step forward. Maybe to the bathroom, maybe to look out the window, maybe even to just have the strength to take another step, then another one, and another one after that. Before you know it you are moving and momentum kicks in…today, it may be okay to just get started. The basics are all you can handle. The first step can be the hardest one, and the most joyful one. You’ll never know until you actually begin.

What is preventing you from getting started? Who is not supporting you, making you feel angry or sad, or who’s voice is in your head reminding you of past failures? Why are you robbing yourself of the joy of that new beginning? When will circumstances be better than just getting started today…NEVER…so begin.

Fear, depression, sadness, pain, even your haunted past has the power to stop you in your tracks. The only way you can conquer all those emotions is to begin. It sounds simple, yet it’s true…the first step up Mt Fuji is the hardest one. Once you get started the rest of the work is just one step in front of the other.

I’m giving you permission to begin – begin again, begin for the first time, begin for the one hundredth time – whatever it is, just begin!
