I love antiques and old things. My mom found this frame when we were with friends ‘antiquing’…it was $10. Both of us could see the possibilities. No idea who the woman was in the photo, so I bought it and created a piece to go inside using this quote:
Life’s riches other rooms adorn,
yet in the kitchen home in born.
I cleaned up the frame and glass. It now sits on our kitchen counter.
I really enjoy making things news, repurposing antiques and finding new ways to warm up a room. In this world of instant gratification, throw away items and ideas, HUGE change and endless bombardment with the latest and greatest, reimagining the possibilities of items is very fulfilling. Finding ways to repurpose old things adds such joy!
I’m not sure what your spaces are like, yet I hope you have treasured items that you see on a regular basis. Things that remind you of fun times, great ideas, or things you have made your own or collected over the years. Things that have stories behind them, not just price tags. Whether your space is big or small, having things that bring you joy and help you better understand yourself and what’s important to you – THAT is what makes a house a home. Be it an apartment, a spare room, a basement hideaway or your own home, it is what YOU do with your things that makes you glad to open the door and be in your own place. And having your own space makes all the difference in your mental and physical health.
Let me encourage you to get out there and do something, create something, find something that you want to see in your home on a regular basis. Make your spaces your own, and do that by doing it yourself. Be it a trip to Goodwill or the trash dump, an antique store or your own basement filled with boxes – go find something to make you a better YOU! Reimagine the possibilities of what your living space could become. You are worth that time and effort!!!
