You Are Indeed Blessed, Lucky & Fortunate!

I have been moving mulch these past few days…nearly 200 cubic yards. That’s a lot of mulch!!! It’s hard, physical work and I greatly enjoyed it. I know that sounds crazy and yet it’s true. While I was working and sweating I kept this phrase in my head. I was reminded of it by my brilliant niece. She has been working to reframe her perceptive on how she looks at the things she has to do, yet may not always enjoy doing. Instead of telling her self she has to do it, she tells herself she is blessed, fortunate and lucky to be able to do it.

Here are a few examples:

How blessed am I to have a fantastic property that needs me to move mulch!

How fortunate am I to live in a house with three bathrooms that I am able to clean!

How lucky am I to have my own washer and dryer in my home to do laundry!

How blessed am I to have dogs and cats I care for everyday!

How fortunate am I that I am healthy enough to be able to do hard physical labor!

By telling ourselves the positive, wonderful aspects of the things we spend our days doing, we reflect on the blessings not the drudgery. I had a friend come over and she was grumbling about her job. I listened then told her this insight from my niece, and said, “How fortunate are you to have a good paying job when so many other people cannot make ends meet.” We both smiled, laughed a bit and commented that it does make you change your perspective…even if inside you still want to grumble!

In a world where we are bombarded by what other people are posting about their latest and greatest adventures, it can be hard to hear and see it all while your next to do item is cleaning the bathroom or attending yet another online meeting where you never even speak. If you want your life to get better, be better, change or even sustain itself, that means work. And the person who does that work in your life is YOU! No matter how glamorous or ideal someone else’s life seems, there is a great deal of time and effort that went into making it look that way. And again, that means work.

Work is not a bad four letter word, it is what we are blessed to do to keep our life progressing. Work, chores, tasks, to do items – whatever you call it, first and foremost call yourself fortunate to have them. What makes work intolerable is our attitude. Want to enjoy the next thing on your calendar today, dare to say these words out loud – maybe multiple times – and watch how your attitude changes. How fortunate am I to have a bathroom to clean in my own space!

Dare to change the words you tell yourself and watch how your unpleasant tasks become things you are thankful for. Because no matter how you feel, the work does need to get done to keep your world running smoothly. AND you are indeed blessed, lucky and fortunate to have that work to do!
