It Can Always be in Your Heart

Ink & Gel Pen on Watercolor Paper – Words: Victor Hugo

It is a rainy, cloudy day here in Georgia, and after many weeks of cold temperatures in the teens and twenties, we’re okay with that. These words from Victor Hugo seemed to perfectly express how we are feeling. Winter is still on our head – as much Winter as we get in the South this time of year – and we do indeed have Spring on our hearts. I bought flower seeds yesterday and have started planning gardens. It is that understanding in our heads and emotions that the time between now and when things begin to bud again is shortening. Spring and Summer will be here before we know it.

It reminds me of how it feels to begin a project and get everything ready, to then work and wait for it all to get completed. Some things go well and other times things get delayed. Sort of like being in limbo – cold then warm, chilly then cloudy, rainy then buds. The cycle of life. The ups and downs we all encounter as we move forward.

As we finish the first month of this new year, which makes it not feel very new anymore, some things in life have started fresh while others are taking their own sweet time to take hold. You may be an all out reinvention of self or in a place where you are still figuring out who you want to be when Spring arrives. Both are normal parts of being an adult. Success is not really measured by completing or getting things done. Success is measured by who we become in the process, how we live our lives, and the way we love and care for the people in our world.

Let me encourage you to keep your spirits up as Winter is still on your head, knowing that Spring is headed your way and can always be in your heart…let’s call it hope!
