My online group has a new prompt, something from Winnie the Pooh or The Little Prince. I had fun scouring Winnie the Pooh, and was reminded of the great wisdom and lessons shared through that silly old bear. When I read these words about Piglet, Pooh’s loyal and insightful sidekick, I knew I had to bring them to life in pink ink. It was fun working in pink and bringing Piglet’s revelation closer to home.
It is amazing the lessons we read as children, through the books and characters brought to life by writers and artists from across the globe. Their experiences and abilities had the opportunity to help us form our character, beliefs, and moral compass. By making the ideas palatable for children of all ages, a dilemma or challenge, problem or fear, was solvable and relatable. Such that when it happened in a similar way in our own lives we had a repository of belief that we too could conquer it. Who knew a stuffed bear, a piglet, a rabbit, a donkey, a kangaroo, an owl and a small boy could bring life and love to us all.
If it has been a while since you read the adventures of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh, let me encourage you to dig out your copy or go to the library and read it again. The simplicity, joy, friendship and love amongst those amazing icons of childhood will have the power and wisdom to help you face ANYTHING you are dealing with today. We all have the power to handle any problem that crosses our path, we simply need to employ it. Let me encourage you to have a box of tissues handy, as you read these stories, as they will indeed make you laugh, cry and remember the power of that silly old bear!
