I created this piece in 2020, and liked it so much I wanted to utilize it again. These words from Real Dahl remind me that no matter how much knowledge, wisdom or experience we have in this life…nonsense, silliness, laughter and our imagination are the most powerful tools we can posses. Being willing to let go, be imaginative and whimsical, these moments create the foundation for our future success.
Ever laughed so hard that your side hurt? Or you nearly peed your pants? Or even had to lay down in order to stop laughing? When you finally can get off the floor, you have tears in your eyes, you stutter in giggles and whatever it was you worried about earlier that day is has totally vanished. Those fabulous moments of pure release drove everything else from view. Be it a stupid joke, a funny scene, an impromptu snark or just a funny situation…nonsense makes perfect sense!
Let us take Roald Dahl’s advice and just laugh ourselves silly. Think nonsensical thoughts and dare to engage perfectly irrational ideas. Maybe what we need this holiday season is to give ourselves a break from reality and embrace nonsense. “A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men”…and women! Take time today to practice what the wisest of us all already know, practice nonsense!
