So, Bring on the Change!

Ink & White-Out on Artagain Grey Paper

The prompt for the online group Scribbled Lives was to create a drawn alphabet. last week, happenstance had me killing time in an office supply store, where I found White-Out with a pen like dispenser. Of course I bought it and thought it might be fun to create with it, pretending it was snow…which may be the only snow I see this year, as I live in Georgia. The ‘ink’ was hard to regulate and control, so I moved to a dotting method in the alphabet. I did three or four versions as the white-out often created a big messy blob! I ended up with this one.

This work marks the end of my time in Scribbled Lives. I have been in the group for six years and will instead be administering a group of my own for the local Atlanta Calligraphy Guild, Friends of the Alphabet (FOTA). I have been blessed to learn so much from all the wonderful calligraphers in Scribbled Lives. Now it is my turn to invest and encourage local artists who also love hand lettering. It’s a big change…

Change does not mean bad, just different. We develop habits and organize our lives around things that take up our time and energy. When these things change, it can be a bit unsettling and frightening. We have grown accustomed to things being a certain way. We wake up and do what we need to do because we know what it is we are doing. Change brings with it opportunities and adventures that mean facing the unknown and charging forward. It means bolstering who we are and daring to believe that there is more to come.

So let me encourage you to review the things that take up your time and ask you re-evaluate if they are indeed what you want to do, what you should be doing, or what you need to do to be the best version of yourself. This time of year seems to make that activity a bit more acceptable. We can really change our lives any time we want to, we simply have to choose differently, act differently, and think differently in order to facilitate change. Dare to imagine where your life could be, even if that means giving up something that has become a welcomed part of your week, in order to move towards opportunities yet to come.

So bring on the change! If I can do it, you can too…
