It is a blustery day here in Georgia, which is unusual for the middle of December. Our temperatures are down in the twenties…bbbrrrr! Oddly enough, we will be in the sixties in a couple days. Gotta love the job of the weather person. It is the only job where you can be wrong EVERY DAY and still have a job. And when they are wrong about the weather, we still ask them again what the weather will be like tomorrow!
I found these words from Alice Hoffman about the weather and love oh, so true! Just as the weather changes sometimes everyday, so love and relationships can be fickle, frantic or frenzied! Both have a great impact on our lives, and yet we have no control over either…no matter how we have deluded ourselves. Yes we can be in love, feel love, and enjoy the beauty and majesty of love…but love can be fickle. It has mood swings, highs and lows, just like the barometer. One day you’re sunny and bright, the next day there are clouds and drizzle. Love can overwhelm and destroy us, bring us back to life and cut us to the core. Be it the love of family, friends, or even romantic love…love is truly unpredictable. And yet, love is what can make any day better than the one before. It has the power to push us forward to places we never thought possible, while reminding us that love and our emotions are a blessing we live with each and every day.
Just like we cannot control the weather, we cannot control love. Once we figure that out and learn to manage the ups and downs of both – the blustery days of Winter and the warm sunny days on the beach – we are not turned off or disappointed. We take whatever is going on in stride and continue to love and enjoy whatever weather that day holds. The best relationships I know are the ones where elements and emotions are handled on a day to day basis. The underlying facts do not change, love means loving no matter what…and if we all stayed inside during less than desirable weather, well we would be hermits!
So love today, handle the weather and love, knowing that tomorrow it could all change. Be secure in that each day has weather and love, the two elements about which once can never be sure.
