Let Us Give Thanks…

Sharpies Non-Bleed Marker on Gel Print Monotype – Words: Charles E. Jefferson

It is Thanksgiving Day here in the US, which means I want to encourage us all to give thanks for where we are now, where we have been, and where we are going. In this age of instant everything, let us give thanks for the basics, the staple elements of our own existence that we might often take for granted. Here’s a great way to start that process…

If you woke up from a comfortable bed…give thanks.

If you have food in your belly, a cup of coffee or your morning beverage of choice, which may simply be a clean glass of water…give thanks.

If you have a bank account with funds in it, no matter how low or how high the balance is…give thanks.

If you have clothes on your back AND even more so options of clothing to put on your back…give thanks.

If you have a roof over your head that keeps you dry and warm…give thanks.

If you have a cell phone, a computer or a way to stay connected to the world and the people you love…give thanks.

As you can read this, it means you somehow got educated by dedicated people who invested their time in your life…give thanks.

If you have to sit next to weird relatives or your Great Aunt Tessie as you eat your Thanksgiving meal…even if you didn’t get seconds on your favorite casserole…give thanks.

If you get to spend time with people who care about you, or relaxing by yourself doing whatever you please…give thanks.

And if you can breath, eat, walk, talk, move about freely or even if you need assistance…a day above ground is a great day…so give thanks!

All too often in this crazy, always running, always striving, always being bombarded by what we should want, do or be next, it is important to give thanks today for the many blessings each of our individual lives have to offer. Take a deep breath. In your own moment of silence list out the many blessings you have to be thankful for in your world. It is Thanksgiving Day after all…so let us have gratitude and enjoy the bounty of our own individual choices to be where we are today.

Just so you know, I give thanks for you as you are reading my words and enjoying my art. You are one of my many blessings today…thank you!
