For Scribbled Lives we were asked to create something only in pencil. No illustrations, just words. I do not produce a lot of work in pencil, to me it is a rough draft tool…so hhhmmm, what to do? I then thought about my cool Spirograph set and sharpened my pencils so their tips would fit into the holes. HURRAH! It worked. I found this quote from Frida Khalo about pencils, and put the two pieces together.
I enjoyed the challenge of working with a tool I usually kept for other purposes. It reminded me of my early days in learning calligraphy and made me grateful for the growth I have done over the decades. Sometimes going back to our humble beginnings reminds us what we have mastered AND how much we can build on what we have already learned.
When was the last time you went back to your roots and used a tool, or visited a place that you hadn’t seen for decades? It is a great way to reflect and realize the many gifts, blessings and changes you have experienced over the years. It also helps you remember the times you thought you might never survive, only to look back and see the path you have traveled to get where you are today. No matter what is happening today, time will give you the gift of perspective as it passes day by day. Eventually life will change again and today’s pain or discomfort will be the foundation for tomorrow’s glorious rise!
Maybe today is a good day to sharpen your pencils and play with your toys…maybe even Spirograph! I highly recommend it!
