I created this work for Scribbled Lives, an online calligraphy group. Our prompt was birds. Something or anything related to birds. I had to think for a long time about what quote I wanted to utilize. I am no illustrator and often get frustrated because I would like to draw, just not a tool in my skill set. This quote is one of my favorites, so I created this to be clean and simple. No ned to draw birds, the text says it all.
You know the moment. The one when you think you have no energy to move an inch further. You find yourself dead in your tracks, as if the world has gone completely dark. You feel hopeless, overwhelmed, weighed down, or even worse than any other feels, you feel nothing at all. It is the dark times when there seems to be no hope, and your faith fails you. They days when your pajamas, a movie and ice cream are the inning combination for passing time. We’ve all been there.
These words from Tagore always bring me hope. Days, nights, weeks , months even years may feel dark. EVERYONE feels that way at one time or another. You are not alone, crazy or a disaster because today your day is dark. If you want things to change, and I say IF because sometimes being stuck is what we want rather than doing any work to make things better. IF you want the darkness to dissipate, time to employ faith. Faith is the bird that sings while the dawn is still dark. Faith is believing even though you cannot see it that a greater power is at work. Faith is knowing that morning will come, the sun will rise, and the day holds infinite possibilities, even as you chirp away in the darkness. Faith is believing that things beyond your control can happen, will happen, do happen AND that you have the power to keep going. Faith is acting AS IF anything is possible, even as you face circumstances that make you feel nothing will change.
For things in your current dark days to change, you need to change something, do something. You need to change your thought processes, your perspective, your actions and your attitude. You need to get moving. Maybe the way to get started is with a little chirp…something you can do right now to lift yourself out of the muck and mire. Sing a happy song, look at happy pictures, take a shower, each a healthy meal, walk around the block, ANYTHING to get you in forward motion. Starting to speak words of positivity is akin to that bird chirping their song when the dawn is still dark. It shows belief and helps you begin to shed feelings of despair.
Eventually dawn does come, light does change, and so will your situation. Control what you can control and keep moving, keep chirping like that bird before dawn…and be willing to do the work.
