No need to sparkle…not words we hear very often in this glitz and glam, stand out any way you can culture of ours. Post on Facebook, Instagram, make a video on Tik-Tok or Reels. Get your own UTube Channel. Post as many photos as you can, as often as you can, so you will be noticed, important, “go viral” and be someone. Virginia Woolf would be shocked and appalled. I greatly appreciate her words, reminding us that we don’t have to try and be anyone but ourselves. THAT alone is worth it – being our own, true genuine selves.
When was the last time you felt like yourself? Like the person you were presenting to the world was the real person you are inside? Not just the persona you have built up to protect your inner thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Not the person people expect you to be, or the person you want to be for people in order to feel important; the person you truly are when the facade falls by the way side. The person you are late at night when the room is quiet, you are alone with your thoughts and you dream of being your genuine self. I’m sure all of us would like to meet that person, they sound awesome!
I had dinner with a dear friend and enjoyed an evening of being my true self. No games, no one-ups-manship, just time spent being the real women we are today. It was fantastic!!! We have known each other over thirty years and now more than ever we are comfortable being ourselves KNOWING that we are loved and appreciated just the way we are! If I had one gift to give you today, it would be to have the people and place to be your own genuine self; somehow, to be able to share your thoughts, ideas and troubles without judgement or ramifications. Knowing that your words have the power to free you AND the people who read them. A place with friends where there is no need to sparkle…no need to be anyone but yourself.
Maybe writing this post is my first attempt at giving you that gift…now it’s up to you to put this gift to good use everyday!
