Inktober Day 6: It’s IMPORTANT Enough

Ink on watercolor paper – Words: JK Rowling

She changed the world with her books about Harry Potter, his adventures and the lessons he learned along his years in school. JK Rowling spent seventeen years writing the entire Harry Potter series. That’s long enough to get pregnant, have the child and watch it grow up, then teach it to drive at sixteen….and you would just then be finishing the series! WOW! Talk about persistence, patience and belief in your work! Once I understood how long it took her to write the series, this quote made much more sense. If anyone is qualified to talk about actually finishing something, it is JK Rowling.

What have you always wanted to do? Hopefully something comes to mind. That is not the hard question. The hard question is, what is preventing you from doing that thing? How much is being prevented by other people, circumstances, or maybe even more troublesome…you? We are magnificent at getting in our own way. We come up with and buy all our best excuses, problems, challenges, this-and-thats that somehow give us the freedom to not do what we have always wanted to do.

Guess what? It won’t get better unless you make a firm commitment to let all those things get set aside, or put them in their perspective places, so you CAN do the thing you have always wanted to do. There will AWLAYS be a reason not to do something. The point is to BE the person who had those reasons and did that important thing they wanted to do, no matter what!

If that does not motivate you. If JK Rowling taking seventeen years to write her stories then change the world, if that doesn’t motivate you. How about this. What you want is IMPORTANT enough to do, no matter what anyone says or how any circumstance makes you feel. Go on, muster up the courage and go DO the thing you have ways wanted to do. What you want to do is important enough…so stop accepting those roadblocks and just get started. YOU can do it!
