Whether we like it or not, so much of life is about a process. Be it growing up, growing old, or even growing into our own skin, the journey we take in living our lives is simply about being patient and trusting the process. Which can be harder than we thought…sort of like driving to an unknown destination with a navigation system.
You know what I mean, you’ve done it. You plug in your final destination and then hit START. As the voice tells you where you are and where to go next, you listen and watch for signs that you are going in the right direction. And THEN, you listen, turn down a strange path and doubt takes over. You wonder where you are being taken, will this get me where I want to go? You may even take matters into your own hands and stop the navigation all together. But WAIT, there’s more options, you think!. Maybe you pull out an old map, try a different app, or even stop and ask someone for directions. And as you drive slower, often becoming a traffic hazard, you still doubt that the navigation system is right…you don’t trust it. You thought you knew better. And yet you are still lost.
If you have had this happen more than once, you know that moment. The one where you have to choose to trust that darn voice telling you what to do, OR you have to drive and hope that you end up somewhere you recognize. Either way you have waylaid your adventure and it is taking longer than you wanted. And for those of us who have learned to trust, we click back into the voice and TRUST, turn back on the navigation system, whether we know the way or not…and we trust that voice…it knows where we are going and how to get there.
Wouldn’t it be great if life had a navigation system to tell us EXACTLY which way to go? Turn here, don’t date that person, turn left and get a new job, not this house what for the one you REALLY want, invest in this stock not that one…call your Mother. OH! How much easier life be! But, there is no navigation system for life. WE are the navigation system; we have to learn, and trust and believe in ourselves enough to know what we want and what we don’t want. And trust that if it all falls apart we will figure out how to get back on track. Our memories, our instincts, our hopes, dream and desires work together to guide us to become a better version of ourselves. No matter how you are navigating your current circumstances, YOU do know how to get where you want to go. It means trusting the process AND following directions which you set in place, and trusting yourself. Listen to that little voice telling you want to do…it really does want to prevent you from being lost.
Let me encourage you today to trust the process, your memories and your gut. Trust that you DO know what is best for you then work like mad to get what you want! Be your own best navigation system!
