Don’t Complain, Give Thanks!

Ink on gel print monotype – Words: Unknown

In a conversation with a friend they mentioned how frustrated they were with their life and responsibilities. Building a career, chores to keep a household going, family responsibilities, planning a vacation and getting her kids ready for a new school year. I laughed. She asked me why. I used this quote to explain my laughter. Once I said it, she blushed and understood.

It is the old ‘be careful what you wish for, you just might get it‘ syndrome. Wanting and wishing for a better life is VERY different than actually living that better life. With that better life comes property to care for, people to nurture, activities to attend and work to do. It means being responsible and not selfish. It means doing things you did not ask to do YET come with the blessings of life. Having it all means having a lot to do. So on those days when you feel the pressures, pitfalls and pathetic time sucks on your days, remind yourself that at one time you had none of this and you wished, NO PRAYED for it all. And here it is and all that comes with it.

When we feel overburdened, harassed by our life, befuddled to handle all our responsibilities, and even overwhelmed by what to do on our weekend other than mow the lawn…THAT is when we need this quote as a reminder. The things we take for granted are the things someone else is praying for. Pure and simple the burdens of life mean we have the life we wanted, now we simply need to give thanks then manage our blessings and attitude better.

So today, give thanks for a busy schedule, more to do items than you can get done in one day, and then think back on when you had none of this. Don’t complain, give thanks and then give back so someone else can have their dreams come true.
