To Get Up and At ‘EM…Take a Nap!

It may sound counterproductive, yet some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten was to take a nap. Need to get more done, rest. Have a big project that is driving you mad, try snoozing for an hour. Want to ‘see’ the answers to your problems more clearly, give yourself the gift of relaxation. As this saying reminds us: Take a Rest: a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop. The answer to getting your work done is not work harder, it is work smarter with rest.

Sure we can put more into our days. And of course you can take on more, do more, accomplish more, and yes you can stay up later and get it all done. In the end that short term plan might work. Long term it is unsustainable and VERY bad for your mental and physical health. Eventually you burn out, burn up, wear down and fail to function. Sooner or later the more work mentality catches up with us and our body, mind and spirit begin to fail us and our bright ideas crumble away. And soon people no longer want to be around us as we are wound tighter than a tick and our attitude, emotions and snapping remarks make being in our presence a real bummer.

Give yourself the gift of rest this weekend. Yes there is LOTS to do, and lots of fun to be had by all. And that is all well and good, yet you will never know a more satisfying afternoon than to hear snoring pets and people with a breeze gently blowing across your porch while you fade to sleep.

To perform at your best, come up with your most stupendous ideas, or even to get your brain cells back to their optimum function…take a nap. Let the power of sleep bathe you in peace and quiet. And when you get up, get up and at ’em!
