I talk with lots of creative people each week, and always take that opportunity to ask to them about their business. What’s working? What’s not? What’s changing and how are they evolving themselves and their business? I am always amazed at the variety and yet similar answers I hear. One person talked about service growing things for them, which led me to this quote:
What Your Business to succeed? Change Your Focus from making money to serving people. Serving People makes money come in.
– Robert Kiyosaki
We do not get very far in life without people. No matter how much they annoy us, drive us crazy, knowing we cannot control or change them, people are what makes life an adventure and fulfilling. When we change our focus from getting things done to one of service, suddenly things change and our lives prosper in ways we never imagined. Instead of trying to figure out what WE get out of an interaction or to do item, when we dare to switch the focus to HOW we can serve others everything improves. Our attitude, our perceptive, even the positive or negative outcomes are more manageable. People and serving them makes all the difference.
People also make things messy. They do not always comply or conform to what we think they should do, how they should behave, or even how they should treat us. Giving up the ability to control people may go better when we focus on how we can serve them. No matter how much you love and adore those around you, people will disappoint us AND we then have to figure out how to keep moving forward. Changing our focus in terms of people – service versus profit – THAT is the game changer.
The best people I know – those making money, those living in a community, those working hard to build their life – they all have an attitude of service. How can they serve the people in their life better…even if they never get the credit for what they have done. When we change our focus from profits, what’s in it for me, and what do I get out of it, to one of service and kindness it pays off. And not just in dollars and cents.
Think about life as an exercise in planting seeds. The more you sow the more you reap. The better you care for those seeds – water, sunlight, security – the more they grow. Life is the same process. We are reaping what we sowed in times past. Don’t like where you are, change the way you are sowing seeds, or even change the seeds you are planting. Focus on serving people and your harvest will grow beyond measure. Be it money, a thriving business, power, happiness, kindness, whatever it is you want sow those seeds for others and it will come back. Change your focus and you have the power to change your life.
