They Will Ask for Seconds & the Recipe

Gel Pen & Scrap Gel Print – Words: Martha Stewart

She spent five months in prison, then another six months under house arrest on charges related to conspiracy and obstruction of justice. It cost her over $1 billion dollars to serve that time. It could have been the end of her career, fame, and ability to move forward, but it wasn’t. Martha Stewart bounced back like a champ. She buckled down and got to work. Her reputation for being a perfectionist AND having learned to let that go inspired these words:

So the pie isn’t perfect…cut it into wedges!

– Martha Stewart

Martha reignited her brand, her business and reinvented her television show with friends, like Snoop Dog. Now she is bigger and better than ever. More relevant, more watched, and more relatable. I admire her spunk in doing the time (when the men who were charged with the same thing did no prison time) and coming back better than ever! She faced up to her crime and then worked hard to get back into the game.

I think we forget that perfection is not the goal, being true to ourselves is the real end game. We cannot be someone else, pretend to be perfect, nor can we survive this thing called life very long when we demand perfection from ourselves and others. We will drive everyone absolutely bonkers if we will only accept perfection. I know you know this, yet I am going to state the obvious…we all know you are not perfect, and we know that about ourselves as well. Whew! It felt good to let that one out. It is a needed reminder in this world of internet posts, retouched photos and reels and reels of perfectly crafted moments – none of us are perfect.

Let this be your reminder that you are not expected to be perfect. AND, whoever it is that makes you feel that you have to be perfect…..RUN! Run far away from them, run quickly, don’t look back. JUST RUN AWAY! Perfection is the enemy of good health and a satisfying self image. Once you truly embrace your flaws, the fact that your pie is not perfect and you can still serve it, THAT is when your true adventures begin.

Life is too short to sell ourselves a bill of goods. Each day brings enough strife, battles, activity and to do items without having to add being perfect into the mix. Don’t buy that stuff, even with a 50% off coupon! Perfection is not the goal – being your true self and facing the facts is the only way to truly find joy and contentment. You are incredible just the way you are. It is your flaws and foibles that make you human, endearing and someone people can admire. Martha Stewart showed us that. Go ahead and dish out your imperfect pie…no one will complain, in fact my guess is that they will ask for seconds and your recipe.
