Pick Up the Clue Phone…It’s For You!

Ink & brush pen on rice paper – Words: Ansel Adams

For week two in our Scribbled Lives challenge we were asked to use the Pantone color of the year Peach Fuzz as a focused feature in our work. Which meant I had to find a way to represent that specific color…hhhmmm. I live in Georgia, the Peach State, so you think that would be easy. Not really. I also didn’t want to just write the words peach fuzz. I had the idea to find quotes that included the word fuzz or fuzzy…and here it is. Ansel Adams, who knew???!!

I enjoyed his phrasing – a sharp image of a fuzzy concept…so true. We all do it, we just don’t call it that. We call it feeling meh, or frazzled or even fuzzy. We work toward something then halfway along the journey we forget what the goal was, or why we wanted to do it, or even how we planned to get it done…so we get muddled. Fuzzy…great word!

In a culture that pushes us to be connected, driven, goal oriented, accomplished or even above average, there are days and times when our emotions make that seem an impossible task. Days when tears come for no reason, or we bark back at a friend or coworker about nothing. Days when getting dressed seems like climbing Mount Everest, or sleep seems elusive when all we want to do is get a good night’s rest. Fuzzy…for no understood reason, just fuzzy. Can you relate?

Instead of seeing that as a bad thing, what if we picked up the clue phone and listened? The message we would hear is that we need to stop, take a deep breath and relax. Slow things down and breathe deeply. In then out…in then out. One breath at a time.

Fuzzy can be code for fractured, frazzled, frightened, forgetful, or even forlorn. All great words that mean life is asking us to pause, take a deep breath and allow ourselves to focus on ourselves because we are important. Our mental and physical health is a priority far more valuable than your bank balance or the right outfit for yoga class.

Take another deep breathe…go ahead, do it…I can wait.

Now let it out slowly…and feel the fuzzy disburse.

Give yourself the gift of calm and allow the sharp images in your life – what is REALLY important to your world – come back into focus. Pick up the clue phone, it’s for you!
