Ok, I have a confession to make. This was actually a real messy error on my part. When I first wrote the word “thrive” I spelled it wrong. No big deal, except I only had this one piece of paper to finish today’s piece. After grumbling I decided to write right over the wrong spelling with the right one. The green behind was the misspelled version; obviously, the black letters are the correct spelling. Considering this quote from Maya Angelou, thriving with compassion and humor, I got it.
I appreciate that Maya didn’t just want to survive her life, she wanted to thrive. I’m sure not every day felt like she was thriving…we all have those days. The good news is she figured out how to make her world better through words and poetry AND how to share her passions, protests and compassion while including everyone in some way. She was a woman who put her thoughts out there in such a way that people everywhere are able to relate and better understand themselves as well as each other.
Today was a day I had to choose to thrive instead of survive. I had to make it work with one piece of paper (I have since bought more). And I had to keep working on the letters until I no longer saw the mistake. I can’t tell you how many layers of ink I put down in order to get beyond the mistake. Isn’t that true for so many things in our lives…it takes layers and layers – of forgiveness, hope, courage, attitude, work and once again forgiveness – to get beyond where we are to become who we want to be.
Choose to thrive, not just survive. However you describe it, let thrive be your new buzz word. Not success, not accomplishment….THRIVE!
