Today is Mom and Dad’s fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. They have been married for 21,170 days. In this day and age when we have devalued marriage and family I am proud of this amazing commitment. It highlights the amazing couple and their commitment to love and each other over many, many years. Here we are as a family back in 1965. This is one of my favorite Easter photos, all of us dressed in our special outfits. The futures all of us would experience none of us could have imagined.
I am fortunate that my parents have become my friends. I am blessed that my brothers and I grew up enough to treat each other like adults and become friends. We lost Walt a little over eight years ago, yet he is with us every day in some way, shape or form. This family unit has had some amazing adventures, some for fun and some revolved around the journeys we all have in life. It’s not what happens to you that matters, it is how you react and deal with the shrapnel that matters.
All of our adventures, our highs and lows started because two people fell in love and made a commitment to be together no matter what. They started a family and that decision changed the world; it changed our lives the most. Thank you for being you, for being committed and loving each other and us for years, and for generations to come.
